Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964, is an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and as an United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the 2nd African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who fought for health care and federal de-scheduling of cannabis. A path towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
